Tour Burwell, Rodeo & Lakes

Saturday August 25th, 2012 - Before the later afternoon tour of Fort Hartsuff
State Historic Park, and Dinner, we toured Burwell and the grounds of the
Nebraska Big Rodeo, visited Calamus Reservoir, and Calamus Fish Hatchery.

After breakfast, while Brenda, Hugh's wife, helps a neighbor, Hugh gave Mike Brenda and I
tour of his Toy Warehouse and Woods on a Acreage a few blocks away.

Tour of Burwell

The tour began with Riverside Park & Lake on North side of town - The Broken Bridge is from a floods in the 1920's

Nebraska Big Rodeo Grounds
  We explored the grounds of the Nebraska Big Rodeo & Garfield County fair , including cargo containers press box
  and steel chutes. The chutes is a gift to the Rodeo.

Railroad Turntable - It was the end of the CB & Q branch rail line.
  Standing on the Historical Turntable, we visited with Kevin, the Owner of TNT Diesel Service, Just east of the turntable.

  After Lunch, we viewed Kevin’s wall of License Plates from every Nebraska County.
  He is the Owner of TNT Diesel Service. The livestock market is nearby.

Calamus Lake Outing - Calamus Reservoir State Recreation Area & Pebble Creek Road

to Fish Hatchery at Calamus Reservoir.
   After viewing the wall of License Plates at TNT Diesel Service, we head for Calamus Fish Hatchery, Crossing
   the North Loup River, Calamus River and the Calamus Reservoir dam. Lake water is low due lack of rain.

  After viewing the education exhibits in the Visitor Center, we had an inside tour by Jim
  he is administrator and friend of Hugh from Church.

   We took a short drive west to Huckshot Bay. Here the boat Ramp is out of water. Next we crossed the dam north
   and west to Homestead Knolls camping area, no photos, and back east to Little York Point – Historical Markers

  We return to burwell by the way of scenic Pebble Creek Road, with stops at Littlefield Monument and
   the Historical Marker on Highway 91 - the Pebble Creek Fight & Easter Blizzard of 1873
