Christmas in Germany

Sunday December 4, 1-3pm -
Besides Oktoberfest, the
German-American Society of Omaha
holds a
"Christmas in Germany" celebration the first Saturday in December.
There was a wide range of
authentic
Christmas theme Entertainment in the North Hall, authentic holiday
food in the South Hall and
woodcarving
& Hummel items displayed in the Ratskeller.
"Candle lit"
Christmas
trees were everywhere. |
North Hall Entertainment
(Afternoon)It includes "Die Heimat Tänzer"
Christmas folk dances and "Die
Singenden Wanderer" choir singing
German Christmas songs (last 3 photos). The last folk
dance was done with candles (left two photos in 2nd row). |

Christmas TreesGerman brings many
customs to the United States, including the
Christmas Tree. The most
impressive tree
with its authentic German decorations (middles photos) and it wooden star
on top were in the North Hall
(left & next to the right photos). Small tree with red decorations
was in the South Hall (Right
Photos) and in
the Ratskeller (has a bow on top). A
wooden nutcracker was guarding two trees (next to right & Left
photos).

Ratskeller Displays
(downstairs)The Ratskeller
had wood crafts, art and carving by the Mid-American Woodcarvers in the
"Oberammergau Area"
(no photos) and large display of Hummel figurines (left,
in front) and Dolls (right) by Omaha’s H.I Hummel club
in
the "Rodenta-Coburg" Area. Hummel Display includes a nativity scene
(next to left, worth $3000) and winter scene
(center images) to be raffled off to support the Omaha World-Herald
Goodfellow charity . |
